How to Play Darts 501
Darts 501 is the most popular professional darts game. The objective is for a player to be the first to reduce their score exactly to **zero** (0), starting from 501.
Core Rules:
- Starting Score: Each player begins with **501 points**.
- Turns: Players take turns throwing **three darts** per turn.
- Scoring: The score of the three darts is subtracted from the current total.
- The 'Checkout' (Winning): To win a "leg," a player must hit a **Double** on their final dart to reduce their score *exactly* to zero.
E.g., if a player has 40 points left, they must hit **Double 20 (D20)**. If they have 50 left, they can hit the **Bullseye (BULL)** which counts as a Double 25 (D25).
The Bust Rule:
The game includes a critical rule called the **Bust Rule** (or "No Score"):
- If a player's score goes **below zero**, or
- If a player leaves themselves with a score of **1**,
They have "busted." Their score is **reverted** to the total they had *before* their turn, and the turn is passed to the next player. The final score must be zero with a double.
*This tracker handles the Bust Rule automatically, reverting the score and switching the turn if the remaining score is 1 or less.*
